Cuckooz Curates: The Tattoo Collective @ The Old Truman Brewery
Words by Bryony Rosier, Thursday 15 March 2018

Don’t know what’s on this weekend? We do… Cuckooz Curates is a weekly blog dedicated to highlighting our picks of the best events happening in East London. We’ve done the groundwork so you don’t have to.

This weekend the Tattoo Collective is heading to The Old Truuman Brewery in Brick Lane, showcasing the crème de la crème of British and Irish tattoo artists. Taking place over a two day stint, some of the best faces in the industry will congregate and offer their services to the general public. So if it’s finally time to  take the plunge and get that sleeve piece you’ve always wanted, or  you simply want to visit as a spectator and see some truly talented artists at work, head on down and see what’s on offer.

The team here at Cuckooz are delighted to learn that some of our own favourite artists will setting up stalls over the weekend. With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of our one’s to watch, so if your travelling from overseas, or simply out of the loop, we can point you in the right direction…

Best for:

Alex Reinke – Holy Fox Tattoos, London

The only apprentice of Horiyoshi III besides his own son, Reinke has been tattooing for nearly 20 years and produced outstanding Japanese, Irezumi style tattoos throughout his time. His beautifully coloured, highly detailed designs are extremely sought after, so nab the chance to get inked whilst you can!

Elliot Wells – On the Road, Edinburgh

Also known as ‘The Master of Peonies’, Wells’ brightly coloured, distinctively lined creations draw from Japanese influences. His work is truly remarkable, and we strongly recommend you check him out.

Duncan Whitfield – Custom Propaganda, Southampton

Formerly a graphic designer of over 13 years, Whitfield has been tattooing incredibly realistic black and white portraiture for close to 8 years now, and has gained a reputation as one of the best artists in the industry.

Endre Szabo – Tattoo End, London

Hungarian artist Szabo has been in the industry for 16 years, and produces colourful graphic portraiture.

Big Lurkio – TSUK, Sheffield

Super friendly and oh-so professional, Lurkio produces watercolour-esque animal tattoos in a distinctive style.

Charlotte Timmons – Modern Body Art, Birmingham

Birmingham based, neo-traditional animal lover Charlotte produces bespoke and flash artworks.

Piotr Gie – On the Road, Brighton

Another one for the fans of neo-trational style tattoos – Gie’s work is colourful, bold and eye catching. What’s not to like?

Lee Stewart – Good Times Tattoo, London

The master of mimicry, Lee Stewart’s wonderfully abstract ‘brushstrokes’ are devilishly detailed and truly unique.

Otto D’ambra – The White Elephant, London

One of our all time favourite artists, Otto D’ambra’s style merges collage with illustration, resulting in an unbelievably creative outcome.

Scott Move – Parliament Tattoo, London

Self referred as ‘Illustrative Traditional’, Scott’s work employs dark lines, heavy shading and illustrative mark making.
