Cuckooz Curates: London Pride
Words by Bea Mustocea, Thursday 06 July 2017

Don’t know what’s on this weekend? We do… Cuckooz Curates is a weekly blog dedicated to highlighting our picks of the best events happening in East London. We’ve done the groundwork so you don’t have to.

'Who, being loved, is poor?' - Oscar Wilde

Fellow travellers congregate!  This weekend Pride marks its 45th return this year in London, and promises to be one for the books.  Celebrating 50 years since the decriminalization of homosexuality in the UK, the festivities kicked off on June 24 with the slogan ‘Love Happens Here’ and are expecting to culminate in Saturday’s parade.  The historical milestone achieved this year will result in a parade bigger and bolder, promising to top last year’s 40.000 participants, sashaying from the BBC Broadcasting House and all the way down through Regent’s Street towards Pall Mall.

Although it might be too late to join the floats or the participants, as the list has closed down already, Pride is famous for the numbers of spectators it attracts. So head on down to any of the stops on the map and dance along the participants, indulge in some day drinking, or, better yet, start the party early by joining Trafalgar Square’s pop extravaganza.  In an attempt to make the 2017 Pride festivities even more memorable, the organizers have put together a map of love, which welcomes one and all, inviting you to share your love story from the first kiss to any moments worth documenting here.

As the ‘Love Happens Here’ headline announces, the Pride event aims to encapsulate London’s universality, transcending the borders of religion, race, gender or sexuality, in a resoundingly positive response to recent and tragic global events.  Taking the emphasis on acceptance even further, Pride launched a public hate crime awareness campaign in collaboration with the Met Police and the Galop charity. With all this in store, Pride 2017 is a love letter to London and its residents alike.

Given the past few months we’ve had, it’s more important than ever for us to unite, stand up and celebrate our values of acceptance and love, and Pride is the perfect opportunity to do so, no matter your background or beliefs.

Cuckooz are a proud supporter of LGBQT rights, and encourange all of our guests to head down this weekend and spread the love if you're in town!
