After a long, tiring week at work, all anyone wants is an exciting weekend to take their minds off of the ominous following Monday. I’m here to shed light on distractions that will make the weekend feel permanent... You’ll thank me later.
This weekend, go explore the popping Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, which is London’s annual “celebration of art and creativity”. Being the exhibit’s 251st anniversary, everything on display is going to be for sale. Yes, you read that right; from photography to sculptures, you will have the opportunity to bring home a piece of the exhibit.
One of the highlighted exhibitions this year is the Animal-Themed ‘Menagerie’ in the Central Hall, boasting creative sculptures of animals by artists such as Polly Morgan and Charles Avery. Another is Jane and Louise Wilson’s gallery on light and time, featuring photographs that force guests to stop and ponder the photos’ meanings, rather than turning a blind eye. The rest of the exhibit is made up of pieces by talented artists like James Turrell and Wim Wenders, indicating that this summer’s exhibit is unique, memorable, and unlike any other.
The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition ends on 12 August 2019, meaning there is only a limited amount of time left to witness and/or purchase the artwork. Make sure to check out the RA website here for more information. Have a great weekend!
