Once a month one of our locals flys the nest and writes up their wanderings to offer you a guide of some of Cuckooz favourite cities.
This month Valentina has flown the nest and landed in the inimitable Bucharest, Romania.
Let me just say four words:
The best place I have been so far. There is a variety of saunas and in one of them, the Hollywood one, you can even see a movie while you sweat. I also loved the pool with Dead Sea salts and the red light therapy. The spa closed quite late, around midnight, and has different activities scheduled every day of the week. You can have drinks served in all the pools and snacks. There is also a proper restaurant and a bar where you can have lunch or dinner. A free shuttle brings you back to the city centre but be careful with the timetable as if you miss one you will have to wait an hour to catch the next one.
Old Town, Lipscani
This is one of the most lively and colourful old towns I have ever seen. You will have an amazing selection of bars, restaurants and live music pubs.
A friend of mine recommended Caru' cu Bere Restaurant, which is very popular among tourists and locals.
They serve typical Romanian food and they perform also dance shows in the evening, which is a very enjoyable experience.
As our motto here in Cuckooz is live local, I opted for a typical Romanian apartment in a folkloristic street, nearby Piata Romana.
The area is well connected to the rest of the Capital and features a variety of cafes, supermarket and restaurant.
If you wanted to enjoy an evening stroll, walking to the Old Town - it takes about 20 minutes.
The most famous bookshop in Bucharest!
Closer to the Moon Rooftop
I am a sucker for rooftops and I always aim to visit at least two every time I discover a new place.
The other one that we planned to pop by, Pura Vida Sky, was closed for a private event but it is quite popular for young people in Bucharest.
I had seen a similar street also in Belfast , but I prefer the Romanian version as it is more colourful!
I truly enjoyed strolling around the city as all the buildings have a unique architecture.
If you are into architecture, the backyard of the Stavropoleos Monastery is totally unmissable. It was actually my favourite spot in the city!
If you need a break throughout the day, there is a very nice city park: Parcul Cismigiu.
