Don’t know what’s on this weekend? We do… Cuckooz Curates is a weekly blog dedicated to highlighting our picks of the best events happening in East London. We’ve done the groundwork so you don’t have to.
February is finally here and it’s time to come out of hibernation! Grab your coat and head out this weekend – the International Weird Collage Show is returning to London and this year promises to be freakier than ever.
The 14th show created by Fine Art collaborative ‘The Weird Show’ – the aim of the exhibition is to focus on artists who abandon clichés and approach the collage medium in new, innovative ways.
Featuring the work of 25 artists from all over the world, the opening night (1st February) will include a live sound collage from artist and soundtrack composer Maxwell Sterling (son of the renowned post-punk collage maker Linder Sterling) alongside a whole host of other magical and imaginative creations by specialists within the field.
Keep an eye out for work by one-to-watch Sarah Hardacre, who employs a multimedia approach to image making, combining collage with screen printing. Her work explores themes of urban regeneration, privacy and alienation. Her work is regularly displayed internationally and has been exhibited in the British Museum.
Founding member Max-o-matic will also be exhibiting his narrative-based surrealist creations which incorporate formal elements and visual overlaying.
Opening night starts at 6:30 and finishes at 8:30, and will be open to the public for 11 days.
Jealous Gallery, 53 Curtain Road, Shoreditch, London EC2A 3PT.
Show runs from 1st February – 11th February 2018.
