Cuckooz Curates: London Art Fair
Words by Bryony Rosier, Friday 12 January 2018

Don’t know what’s on this weekend? We do… Cuckooz Curates is a weekly blog dedicated to highlighting our picks of the best events happening in East London. We’ve done the groundwork so you don’t have to.

Art lovers abound… next week brings the annual London Art Fair in Clerkenwell, showcasing the work of a carefully curated, diverse group of emerging and established artists from all over the globe.

With a run time of over 30 years, yet still managing to produce phenomenal talent year in, year out -  this year, London Art Fair has partnered with Art UK – a small charity aiming to transform the way we interact with art via a digital platform. Presenting a multitude of creative practices, both traditional and contemporary, those looking to purchase something unique are sure to find something which tickles their fancy. Strapped for cash? London Art Fair will be presenting work from some of London’s most notorious and interesting gallery spaces – perfect for the curious voyeur.

This year’s Photo50 exhibit is curated by the Hemera Collective, working under the theme ‘Resolution is not the point’. The aim of the collection ‘considers photographic practices and images as a catalyst for interdisciplinary  exchange and collective action.’ Drawing upon the metamorphic nature of the photographic image, the exhibition aims to challenge conceptual and technical boundaries surrounding image making.

Level 1 focuses on international new gallery spaces, with a spotlight on contemporary art. Awardees for emerging artists will be presented alongside a screening room displaying ‘Quick Quick Quick’ – a collection of short films, videos and GIFS.

This year also showcases guest curated ‘Dialogues’ – an exhibition of work by international women artists, stimulating contemporary practice aiming to challenge the gender division of represented talent within the art world.

Next week we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for Adam Gallery (Stand 18), Area Creativa42 (P26), Artco Gallery (Stand P3) and Edgar Modern (Stand G18).

Tickets are available via the London Art Fair website here.

Event runs 16th – 21st January.

Business Design Centre, N1 0QH.
